griswald family christmas

Clark: Hey. If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I'd like Frank Shirley, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, fore-fleshing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is. Hallelujah. Holy shit. Where's the Tylenol?

we had both sides of the family in my parents' house within days of each other and it was the most full that house has ever been :)

christmas eve we did our family thing and instead of presents this year we gave each other christmas cards with some serious writing - the idea was to pour our little hearts out for each other and it was beautiful. dad made a fantastic dinner, we all dressed up, and the original family of five had a nice slow meal taking turns celebrating each other.

christmas itself kicked off with pre-company preparation... we cleaned, prepped food, etc... and as anne got ready to shovel the driveway she strapped on the russian foxhair hat - and we discovered that it could be turned inside out and provided earflaps
the earflaps on this hat are a new discovery

but because it too closely resembled a stovepipe, anne rocked it in classic mode while she shoveled the sidewalk. quite the undertaking. total badass.
thanks anne :)

our family christmas is pretty basic... good food, lots of wine, lots of catching up. there aren't any babies around right now so we've been on a streak of christmases that are a little more mellow. i filmed throughout the day to catch the vibe, and we were able to send a video greeting to the parts of the family that weren't able to be there

of course we also had some national lampoon's christmas vacation (aka naptime)

papa was LOVING the attention he was getting in his santa hat

he didn't take it off all day
papa wore that santa hat all day

so on christmas day we entertained mom's side of the family, who we are fortunate enough to live close to... dad's side came in the day after, who we see three times a year if we're lucky! but this year we had an added bonus: my beloved Aunt Cindy's in-laws came with her and Nana Helen

dad, jorden, aunt cindy, uncle mike, teresa

the visitors included Nana, Cindy and her husband, and her brother-in-law's family. i haven't been around tweens in a long time, so this was like getting released into the wild. these are my people :) i was addicted to the girls, who were adorable and walked my dad through some pop culture highlights

and of course we spent some time creating Miis and teaching Nana some Wii bowling... she rocked it. seriously. apparently she's a total hustler at the alleys in toledo

it was just a really great couple of days. we hung around the house almost the whole time except for one afternoon downtown tour where we hit the state street fashion gamut: forever 21, charlotte ruse, H&M, macy's all in a row :) and then there was a thunderstorm so we locked ourselves in the house and basked in the energy of the kids.
